The main goal is  for your computer to run in the most efficient way it can.  If you have turned off automatic updates, it is important to turn them back on.   

Here’s how:

1. Open Control Panel
2. Search for windows updates
3. Change setting to install automatic updates.

Most security updates come in on the first Tuesday of the month.  Not to say that they will not come at other times in the month as well.

Having the latest updates will help protect you from hackers and eliminate some of the malware that sneaks in. Hackers get in by the user clicking on some ad or opening an email that has something malicious attached. It is important to know that the splash screens out there now are 99% fake tech support pages and it is in fact recommended that you shut your computer down and restart.  If the problem persists then you would want to bring the computer into Computer A Services or schedule a home visit.

Malware mainly comes for downloads, such as bundled software or downloading updates to current software already installed on your computer.  It is important to only download the software or upgrades that you are after. Uncheck all other addons when installing anything even if they are marked as recommended. Malware and other viruses can come from sharing card readers or usb thumb drives with other users who are not using any kind of protection. So it is important to know where the data originated from and if the data is secure.

Updates also allow for improvements in the operating system and software like Internet Explorer. Missing updates can prevent some software or applications from working properly and can produce error codes that are not always easy to resolve.

While running updates on your computer, be sure to never shut your computer down or put it to sleep.  If the computer is shut down or put to sleep it could cause problems with the stability of the operating system.  For all the trouble and time that updates take they are well worth the wait in the long run as a broken update can lead to a corrupted operating system and a repair bill upwards of $200 .
