Technically, the first known computer was the abacus, laced with strings of beads and primarily used for counting money in ancient Babylon, which was approximately 500 BC!

Thousands of years passed before we amped things up with gears and wheels, inventing calculators in the 1600s. 

Then, in 1833, Charles Babbage invented the parts necessary to create the modern computer, but it wasn’t until well over 100 years later that the first working computer – which weighed nearly 50 tons and took up an entire room – was actually assembled.

Believe it or not, it wasn’t that long ago – about 40 years or so – that computers began resembling what we know and love today!
